The DARK 1616M ia an audio interface that provides connections to a Dante or AES67 ip network.
The DARK 1616M ia an audio interface that provides connections to a Dante or AES67 ip network.
Inputs & Outputs
There are 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, available on 8 x AES connections. There are also 16 analogue inputs and 16 analogue outputs, available in paralell to the digital. The analogue and digital outputs are always available, and the inputs work on AES input priority.
The AES3 inputs have sample rate converters and can accept input frequencies up to 192kHz. The incoming AES3 circuit is always sample rate converted to match the Dante newtork frequency. The AES3 outputs are locked to the sample frequency of the Dante network.
Connections
For ease of cabling, audio I/O is presented on D25 sockets to the AES59 standard (Tascam wiring convention) for which there are a number of reasonably priced break out cables available from multiple suppliers.
Remote Mic Amps
The analogue inputs are switchable between mic, line and 48v phantom power. These are controllable across the network via the Dark Controller Windows 10 app. This allows remote control by an engineer of the input selection, gain adjust and input on/off control. A meter is also provided for each input on the app, to monitor the input level and help with setting the gain.
Network Interface
Being designed for resiliant broadcast applications the Dark1616M features both redundant power supplies and redundant Dante network links with link status GPOs (general purpose outputs (solid state relays)). Both primary and secondary network links are provided with both magnetic (copper RJ45) and fibre (SFP) interface connections. The Dante system itself provides a completely transparant redundant link system which means that if the Dark1616M lost its primary link circuit the secondary link would automatically take over with no loss of audio.
The primary and secondary network interfaces are routed internally via a network switch and it is possible to set this switch to work as a traditional network switch instead of the default redundant mode meaning that there would be just one link to the Dante network and the other connections of the switch could have other Dante or network devices connected to them. As with all Dante devices once set up Dark1616 units can be directly connected with each other with no external network hardware.
Alarms
On the front panel 4 bright LEDs indicate the status of the 2 power supplies and the primary and secondary local network links. In parallel to these 4 indicating LEDs there are 4 solid state relay outputs for connecting to external alarm systems for failure notification of a power supply or link fault.
The DIO88 is an inexpensive way to get your analogue signals into and out of the Dante network. The unit has eight XLR inputs and eight XLR outputs. The secondary Dante network connector can be selected to operate either in redundant mode or as a switch output to daisy chain more Dante equipped devices.

The DD-BN31 is a complete wall-mounted Dante audio network interface. It features two XLR mic or line inputs, one stereo Mini-jack line input and one stereo Mini-jack line output on the front panels, plus two line outputs on a rear-panel detachable terminal block. Special software is not required to configure the DD-BN31. Each XLR input provides three switches that may be set from the front of the unit when the cover plate is not installed. One switch enables or disables P48 phantom for that input; the second switch selects the mic or line gain range; the third switch sets the gain. The Mini-jack input provides a switch to configure the input for stereo or summed mono. The Mini-jack output provides a switch to configure the output for stereo or left-channel mono. Each rear-panel output provides a switch to set the output to balanced professional or unbalanced consumer level. The DD-BN31 fits a standard US dual-gang electrical box or an RDL WB-2 back box for installations in thinner European or equivalent walls. The DD-BN31 is PoE powered, and is available in multiple finishes with optional customized graphics.
The two XLR inputs are each converted to a separate Dante network transmit channel. Three gain settings are switch-selectable for both the mic and line input ranges to match condenser or dynamic mic levels and standard line levels.
The Mini-jack left and right inputs are each converted to a separate Dante network transmit channel. Each input provides a network digital audio level of -18 dBFS for an unbalanced -10 dBV input. The input is equipped with a selector to sum the left and right Mini-jack inputs. The summed signal feeds both Dante transmit channels.
Two Dante audio channels are converted to unbalanced line level to feed the front-panel Mini-jack. Each channel provides -10 dBV unbalanced for a network digital audio level of -18 dBFS. The left and right Mini-jack channels are normally fed from Dante receive channels 3 and 4 (stereo). The Mini-jack output is equipped with a selector to feed both output channels from Dante receive channel 3 (mono). This selector may be set from the front of the unit when the cover plate is not installed.
Two Dante audio channels are converted to balanced line level on the rear-panel detachable terminal block. Each output provides +4 dBu balanced for a network digital audio level of -18 dBFS. Each output is equipped with a selector to unbalance the audio and attenuate the level to -10 dBV. These switches are located on the top of the chassis and are set by the installer prior to mounting the unit.
