Glensound – Symphony

Glensound's Symphony audio monitoring and microphone amplifier was originally designed to meet one of our customers requirements. They had been using a similar analogue monitoring system for many years and when they updated their production mixer to a Dante enabled desk they naturally wanted to encompass and embrace the advantages of the network audio system to include their monitoring and musical instrument pre amplifiers. The shape and feature set of the Symphony came from the customer's many years of experience from within the orchestral music industry. The simple controls for the musicians, the microphone amplifier setup hidden away from the musicians, the ability to mount the Symphony on a microphone stand and a clean blank audience facing side of the box were all key required features. Being a high caliber audio environment naturally the microphone amplifiers and monitoring circuits had to be the best available, which was made possible because of our many years of experience in broadcast audio. Features
  • Dante / AES67 compatible
  • Monitoring for 2 musicians
  • 2 x high spec microphone amplifiers

Glensound – DARK1616M

The DARK 1616M ia an audio interface that provides connections to a Dante or AES67 ip network. The DARK 1616M ia an audio interface that provides connections to a Dante or AES67 ip network. Inputs & Outputs There are 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, available on 8 x AES connections.  There are also 16 analogue inputs and 16 analogue outputs, available in paralell to the digital.  The analogue and digital outputs are always available, and the inputs work on AES input priority. The AES3 inputs have sample rate converters and can accept input frequencies up to 192kHz.  The incoming AES3 circuit is always sample rate converted to match the Dante newtork frequency.  The AES3 outputs are locked to the sample frequency of the Dante network. Connections For ease of cabling, audio I/O is presented on D25 sockets to the AES59 standard (Tascam wiring convention) for which there are a number of reasonably priced break out cables available from multiple suppliers. Remote Mic Amps The analogue inputs are switchable between mic, line and 48v phantom power.  These are controllable across the network via the Dark Controller Windows 10 app.  This allows remote control by an engineer of the input selection, gain adjust and input on/off control.  A meter is also provided for each input on the app, to monitor the input level and help with setting the gain. Network Interface Being designed for resiliant broadcast applications the Dark1616M features both redundant power supplies and redundant Dante network links with link status GPOs (general purpose outputs (solid state relays)). Both primary and secondary network links are provided with both magnetic (copper RJ45) and fibre (SFP) interface connections. The Dante system itself provides a completely transparant redundant link system which means that if the Dark1616M lost its primary link circuit the secondary link would automatically take over with no loss of audio. The primary and secondary network interfaces are routed internally via a network switch and it is possible to set this switch to work as a traditional network switch instead of the default redundant mode meaning that there would be just one link to the Dante network and the other connections of the switch could have other Dante or network devices connected to them. As with all Dante devices once set up Dark1616 units can be directly connected with each other with no external network hardware. Alarms On the front panel 4 bright LEDs indicate the status of the 2 power supplies and the primary and secondary local network links. In parallel to these 4 indicating LEDs there are 4 solid state relay outputs for connecting to external alarm systems for failure notification of a power supply or link fault.

Inputs The main input is switchable between mic, mic+48v phantom power, and line. The input has an adjustable gain control to meet a wide range of dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones. The input passes through a broadcast quality dsp controlled compressor/limiter circuit prior to the A/D converters to maximize headroom and designed to manage the peaks of excited commentary. The A/D converters are full broadcast spec low noise, 48K 24bit designed for on air use. Outputs/Talkback There are two output circuits. One is used as the main programme audio, the other as a talkback circuit. There are separate button controls for each of these using Config+. They can each can be independently configured for latching or momentary, with the programme button also having a 'cough' feature. All talkback I/O connections are via the RJ45/CAT5 Dante network audio connection. Monitoring There are two monitoring inputs each with independent level control. Each of these inputs can be switched from the left ear, right ear, or both ears to the stereo headphone amplifier. The headphone amplifier is our high performance intelligent circuit which automatically adjusts its output level for high or low impedance headphones and can also drive mono earpieces and headphones. There are 2 off 4 LED level meters both indicating -12 to +6 dB. One LED meter is located on the front panel to enable easy visualization of the audio levels if the VITA is being used as a table top device and the other meter is located on the top panel facing the operator when used by its beltclip. Power Via PoE on the network connection, or via an external DC power supply. The VITA is often used as a remote link to the main commentary unit. It is favoured by pitch side interviewers, and is popular in combinations with wireless systems.
