Hans Polzmacher is co-owner and CTO of ComPeri, a Munich, Germany, firm that designs, builds and maintains AV systems for corporate spaces.

“There aren’t a lot of businesses here in Germany that can successfully integrate AV into large, complex workspaces. That’s our specialty.”

Hans started at ComPeri 20-plus years ago as a tech installer. Back then, they were focused on building video conferencing solutions. Over time they began to bridge analog AV into the digital world. Now, just about every one of Hans’ projects is built around the Dante AV-over-IP platform.

“We have second- and third-level engineers, audio and video techs, and mounting professionals—we do it all.”

Whether it’s a boardroom or an entire building, Hans draws upon his decades of experience and expertise to envision how AV can enhance and connect every part of every workspace, future-proofing their clients’ AV needs. Hans and his team of 25 employees work at the leading edge of technology to integrate everything from curved LED walls to hidden speakers to video bars.

“We’re here to grow and push our industry, and I’m always looking for the kind of projects that keep my team challenged.”

Super Hero Spotlight

A Q&A on Hans’ role as a leader in the world of AV technology.

Dante:

When did you first encounter Dante?

Hans:

I first heard about Dante about 15 years ago when the first audio DSP started to bring Dante ports to their devices. Manufacturers like Shure, Sennheiser and Biamp.

Dante:

How do you integrate Dante into your designs today?

Hans:

Today we use Dante for almost everything, especially the bigger projects. For us, Dante is the standard we plan all of our components around. And if a device we want to use doesn’t offer a Dante port, we ask the manufacturer when it will be available. Because once you understand what’s possible using the Dante Platform, you don’t want to go back.

Dante:

Do you work with legacy components and how do you connect those over the network?

Hans:

If it’s a new buildout, we go with 100% Dante. But if it’s an old system, we might have to bring some of the legacy devices onto the Dante network. Maybe the client wants to keep their old equipment like microphones, for instance, so we have to find a way to connect those. In that case we might use an adapter to bring the device into the Dante world. There’s always a way.

Dante:

What’s been the biggest challenges in AV over your two-decade career?

Hans:

The headache of analog AV, which networked AV has solved. Now you don’t need cables and connectors. And there’s no noise on the line, it’s all gone.

“A network like Dante with the right switches and infrastructure can be pushed really, really hard and really, really far.”

Dante:

Having seen the evolution of your industry over the years, would you say ComPeri stands on the cutting edge of what’s possible with AV?

Hans:

We have the latest of everything, yeah. I have to make sure my team has cool and innovative stuff or they get bored. But it’s also about future-proofing the systems we build. A network with the right switches and infrastructure can be pushed really, really hard and really, really far. Which is our philosophy around bringing next level AV into the corporate and enterprise world.

Dante:

How does Dante make your life, and the lives of your team, easier?

Hans:

It’s definitely easier because when we plan a room we have tons of flexibility. We’re not too worried about inputs and outputs; it’s about building the infrastructure that will support everything they need. Dante makes it super easy in that sense. And the professional hardware manufacturers we work with all have Dante-enabled products. Which makes the life of an AV designer and installer way easier.

Dante:

Where do you see the future of AV headed?

Hans:

More and more into network infrastructure. It’s already there, but I think one protocol will eventually take over the world. It’s like VHS versus Betamax. Right now we don’t have a universal standard, but it’s coming.

One connection.
Endless possibilities.
