What does “The licensing server sent a badly formed license file (518)” error mean?
If you see “The licensing server sent a badly formed license file (518)” error, the most probable explanation for that is you are using old DVS version which is deprecated due to the latest security update.
The license servers for old versions of Dante Via, and Dante Virtual Soundcard use HTTP protocol, which does not meet our heightened security standards. To ensure a more secure communication, all newer versions of these products connect to new servers using HTTPS protocol.
Versions older than the following DO NOT use the secure license server, and because of that license activation is not possible:
Dante Virtual Soundcard:
DVS (Win) 4.2.0.2
DVS (OSX) 4.2.4.1
Dante Via:
Via (Win) 1.3.1.4
Via (OSX) 1.3.1.3
The solution is to update software to newer version which supports HTTPS protocol. The latest version of DVS, and Via can be found here: https://my.audinate.com/support/downloads/download-latest-dante-software
Make sure that the latest version supports your OS before updating the software.
For MacOS 10.x we suggest to use DVS 4.3 version, here is the link to download page: https://my.audinate.com/content/dante-virtual-soundcard-v4311-macos
