Device Shows Offline In DDM But Ping Is Still Possible

If you’re seeing a device as offline in Dante Domain Manager but DDM shows that it is able to Ping the device, this may be due to one of the following reason:

  • If a computer running Dante software (DVS/Dante Via) or device has gone into sleep mode, it will show as offline in DDM but you will still be able to ping it.
  • Communication between devices and the DDM happens on port 8000. It is possible that something is blocking port 8000, leading to the DDM thinking it’s offline but DDM can still send ICMP messages to the devices IP address.
  • Devices locate DDM on it’s IP address (or FQDN). If the DDM’s IP address has changed, the device will not be able to connect to the DDM but the DDM will be able to ping it.
  • If you’re using High Availability, another possibility is that Devices have been enrolled into DDM manually by their IP address, therefore they do not know the virtual IP address of the DDM. If the DDM is running in High Availability, DNS is recommended.
