Multi-subnet Systems and Flow Count Limitations
Dante audio routing creates flows. Each flow carries several channels of audio from a transmitter to one or more receivers. Unicast routing creates flows to single receivers. Multicast routing creates flows that can be received by multiple receivers. Unicast flows are point-to-point from a single transmitter to a single receiver. Unicast flows typically have space for 4 channels of audio. When designing a system, it’s important to make sure the number of flows required does not exceed the number supported by the device. This is especially important to consider when audio will be traversing subnets as unicast flows are required when sending audio between devices in different subnets.
The number of flows a device has can be viewed in Dante Controller, Device View, Transmit and Receive tabs.
